Mawlynnong, the town has won honor for being the Cleanest Village in Asia in 2003 and the Cleanest Village in India in 2005 by travel magazine Discover India. It is located 90 km (55 miles) from Shillong and 92 km (57 miles) from Cherrapunjee in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. Mawlynnong referred to as ‘God’s own garden’ famous for cleanliness and natural attraction.

Dustbins are made up of bamboo and the waste is collected in them which is directed to a pit and afterward utilized as manure. The people residing in this tiny village have made efforts to keep the town clean and tidy.

Very much normal if you see locals grabbing leaves and throwing garbage in the dustbin.

Kids are motivated to keep the environment clean. Smoking is strictly prohibited whereas the use of polythene is banned. Rainwater harvesting is encouraged.

Particularly in the monsoon, you can see lush rich greenery all around, with the cascades making way to streams and blossoming orchids dangling from the trees add to the magnificence of the town.

The village offers a trek to the living root bridge at Riwai, enjoy the breathtaking views of Bangladesh plains, the sight of the natural balancing rock, picturesque natural beauty, and more.

Best time to visit is from March to June when the weather is very pleasant and monsoon lovers can visit the place from June to September. A must-visit place in the north-east region of India, that you will remember for a long time.
